Q. What can be achieved when a community unites and pulls together?
A. Amazing results!
The Lions Club of Morpeth was out in force once again as the Greater Morpeth Development Trust organised their third ‘litter blitz‘ last weekend. Our friends at Morpeth News TV took to facebook today to praise the volunteers who joined together from all corners of Morpeth’s community.
In just 90 minutes – volunteers blitzed Morpeth Town Centre and cleared over 60 bags of rubbish from our streets. An amazing effort!
What makes it all the more impressive is the range of volunteers. The GMDT were joined by 29 young volunteers from the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers along with adult volunteers from the Lions, Justice & Peace, MKM and a healthy number of you who simply volunteered via facebook.
When a community pulls together it achieves amazing things… Thank you to everyone who volunteered, thank you to those who stopped to encourage the volunteers and a huge thank you to our very own David Richards who played a central role in making this happen.
The event was organised to coincide with the Lions Club International’s Worldwide Week of Service to Protect our Planet. If you’d like to see what else has been happening around the World, simply take a look at #Lions100 on your social media channel of choice.
Closer to home – Details of the next litter blitz will be communicated soon – if you’d like to get involved please contact the GMDT Environment team and speak with David on 07850 743636 or send David an e-mail.
