A Presidential Handover

History was made last year when Lion President Chris Offord handed over the Presidency to the Morpeth Club’s first Lady President – Margaret Trewick. This year it was the turn of Margaret to hand over to Richard Nash who has been a club member for 35 years.

This is not Richard’s first experience of taking on the lead role as his first term of office was in 1987 – a mere 4 years after joining the Club. He has in the meantime been a leading member having taken on many roles both within the Club and at District and Zone level.

Richard is married to Fiona and they have a son, Robbie who is hoping to go to University this Autumn. By career he is involved in Agriculture and is an Agronomist with the farming company Agrii.

On being installed as President, Richard paid warm tribute to Margaret who has had to face many administrative challenges as a result of the Club becoming a Registered Charity in its own right. This was despite her suffering major injuries early on in her Presidency. He said

‘I look forward to building on the foundations laid down by Margaret and I know that I have a good team of Trustees, committee chairs and members who will help the Club to thrive over the coming year.’

Les Brindley was elected Vice President whilst Geoff Bushell remains as Club Treasurer and Ian Mills as Secretary.

As for the venue, the Club continues to meet at 8pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Conservative Club, Newgate Street, Morpeth. The next meeting, following a short Summer break, will be on August 28th.
