For over 27 years the Lions Club of Morpeth has organised an annual ‘Dickens of a Draw’. Currently organised by Lion Mike Nicholson this has just taken place.  There were 33 prizes including a first prize of a week’s holiday in any of Parkdean Holidays sites that was kindly donated by their Director, John Waterworth.  The second prize is a weekend break at Linden Hall.

As usual, the Lions Club offered local charities and organisations the opportunity to raise funds which this year for them totaled over £4500. Tickets and prizes were provided and all the 34 organisations involved had to do was sell the tickets – money will be returned to them in January.  Over the years the benefit to these organisations and the community is over £100,000.

This year the winning numbers were drawn by the Mayor of Morpeth, Councillor Jack Gebhard; whose great uncle Eddy is the Club’s longest serving member.  Mayor Jack praised the Lions for this event and also for the work done for the benefit of the community throughout the year.  He also expressed the hope that the winners will enjoy this festive season just that little bit more.

In response, Lion President Richard Nash thanked the Mayor for his support of many Lions events throughout his Mayoral year.  He also praised Lion Mike Nicholson for again organising Dickens of a Draw and obtaining excellent prizes, kindly donated by generous local businesses and individuals.

Winners will soon be contacted and prizes delivered to the relevant selling organisation as soon as they are received.
